Group Art Therapy

Healing happens in many ways and often the most powerful growth happens when we share our journeys with others. Group art therapy at Art Lab Rx brings people together in a safe, creative space where healing, connection and resilience can flourish.

Led by licensed art therapists, group sessions combine the therapeutic benefits of creativity with the power of community. Participants use painting, drawing, collage or other creative processes to explore emotions, release stress and build meaningful connections with others who get it.

Group art therapy isn’t about being an artist – it’s about showing up, creating and discovering new ways to heal together.

Why Group Art Therapy?

Group art therapy offers something unique – the chance to connect with others while expressing yourself creatively.

Benefits of Group Art Therapy

Whether you’re managing anxiety, processing grief or navigating a life transition, group art therapy can bring relief, understanding and hope.

For Organizations & Nonprofits

Art Lab Rx partners with mental health agencies, schools, nonprofits and community groups to bring group art therapy where it’s needed most. By working together we can increase access to creative, evidence-based care for populations who might otherwise face barriers to traditional therapy.

Our group services for organizations include:

  • Partnerships with Mental Health Agencies – Add art therapy to existing programming for greater impact.
  • Disability Support Programs – Offer inclusive sessions tailored for individuals with cognitive, physical or developmental disabilities.
  • Veteran & Cancer Wellness Programs – Specialized group art therapy for healing, resilience and connection.

Through these partnerships Art Lab Rx helps organizations enhance their services and better support the people they serve.

Mobile Art Therapy Studio

One of the most unique aspects of Art Lab Rx is our Mobile Art Therapy Studio. This traveling studio allows us to bring group art therapy to communities, organizations and events across the Twin Cities, including Blaine, Minneapolis, Coon Rapids, Ham Lake, Lino Lakes, Andover, Fridley and Anoka, Minnesota.

The Mobile Studio makes therapy more accessible for:

  • Schools and after-school programs
  • Nonprofits serving underserved populations
  • Veteran and medical support groups
  • Corporate wellness programs
  • Community events and workshops

By meeting people where they are, the Mobile Studio ensures that healing through creativity is accessible, flexible and welcoming.

What to Expect in a Group Session

While every group is unique, a typical session includes:

  1. Welcome & Check-In – A chance to ground and connect.
  2. Creative Prompt – A guided invitation to begin creating.
  3. Art-Making – Using various materials to express emotions or explore themes.
  4. Reflection & Sharing – An opportunity to process artwork individually or with the group.

Sessions are always led by licensed art therapists trained in trauma-informed and inclusive practices. Participation is voluntary – you can share as much or as little as you choose.
